This is the day I signed the lease to the store. It was the happiest day of my life. I think back to three months ago and I still feel the excitement of starting my dream!
Halmoni, which means grandmother in Korean, is the name of my store in memory of my grandmother who passed last year. Halmoni, this is for you!!
This was the day I checked out the space and I imagined what I wanted...I could see past the mix matched colors on the wall and dust. I pictured myself here, my own little vintage boutique. The location was perfect and I would be the corner shop with lots of windows and tons of sunlight.
I put a temporary sign up and now the hard work started.
Here is one of my angels, Steve who taught me the in's and out's of basic carpentry. He taught me how to locate studs in the walls, how to make my paint brushes last longer and how to level things. He believed in self sufficiency so it was always a learning experience. Thanks Steve!
The paint color I chose was called SYNERGY, how fitting and special. Everything I ever dreamed was now synergizing together. This is the result of many neck, back and mind breaking hours of painting.
And here I am, in my store on opening day. I cried, almost threw up and almost had a panic attack but I made it and accomplished everything I needed. So welcome to the world Halmoni, born on July 8, 2011.
You can acquire all that you need for this project at your local hardware store but you might just have all the fixings sitting around your house.
What you'll need:Upholstery tacs of your choice (<$2) Screen (buy by the roll or by the yd) Small nail and/or hooks of your choice Adjustable bungee cord (they come in all kinds of colors and sizes) Hammer Scissors
The first time I ever did this project I used a window screen that I found sitting in the garage. I used basic household scissors to cut out the size of screen I needed. Recently I bought some bronze screen by the yard at the hardware store, so whatever is available.
Start by cutting your screen to fit, use tacs in the corners and edges to make it stay in place. Add as many or little as you want.
Use bungee cords to hold and display your purses or even to display your favorite shoes
You can arrange your earrings, necklances and purses in anyway that works for you. Switch and reconfigure to always have a rotating display. Make it fun! Displays your accessories as works of art.
My newest addition to the accessory door are the hooks. My accessory of choice are earrings but when I opened the shop I needed a way to display necklaces and what nots and this is what I have I came up with. Works out really nice to hang other things besides necklaces. So this D.I.Y. is really cool because you can use it for anything. Have fun and let me know how it all works out for you. Send me pics!
If you put a blindfold on me and spin me around in a circle...I bet I could find something vintage. Here you will read about things that interest me...fashion, nail polish and Korean culture, just to name a few... Are you curious?
