I enjoyed the event so much because I could directly relate to many of the topics, being half Korean and first generation. It unlocked memories from my childhood that maybe were too painful to remember. When people see me usually they see Asian, not Black, even thought I'm both. My Korean mother raised me while my dad worked all day to support us, so I have lots of memories, values and rituals that are my mothers.
I felt comforted by the fact that when I looked around the enormous gallery that I was surrounded by faces and stories that look and sound like mine. I feel nourished and energized.
